Approximately 50 members of the Army and Navy Academy’s Atkinson Warrior Band will march and play in the National Memorial Day Parade, along Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC. The parade, put on by the American Veterans Center, will be held on Monday afternoon, March 30. Cadets will also be giving a performance on Sunday morning, May 29, at the World War II Memorial.

The Army and Navy Academy, a 300-cadet Academy, is grateful for being given such a major, one-in-a-lifetime honor for the school and all the band boys participating. The Academy’s band has performed at several local and regional events over the school’s 100-year history, but this is the first time they’ve been invited to take part in a national event that’s being televised nationally on The Military Channel.

The Army and Navy Academy Key Club is currently collecting donations for the American Cancer Society for their upcoming Relay for LifeFundraiser on April 16th. Held at Mira Costa College, Relay for Life (a festival-like atmosphere celebrating those who have survived cancer) is open to the public.  Several corporations and citizens take part in the ceremony, offering back rubs, face painting, food and games for donations to the American Cancer Society.  The Relay culminates in a raffle and then a beautiful candlelight vigil with candles illuminating the field all around the track.  We encourage as many locals to join our cadets, faculty and staff to participate in this unforgettable event. Interested in helping? Help a cadet support the American Cancer Society by becoming a part of the on-line donation

team.  Click here to visit the donation site.

Army and Navy Academy’s Samuel Warfield Library is expecting a renovation in the near future. The Academy is currently laying out plans to expand the space to accomodate three new study rooms, as well as a new bathroom facility,  which will achieve similar functionality found in both public and university libraries.  Expanding the study space will provide cadets with the opportunity to work together on major projects and routine homework assignments alike, promoting collaborative skills.

Architectural firm House and Dodge is currently in the process of creating renderings of the latest improvement project for Army Navy. Grandparents Weekend (March 18-20, 2011) will be the first opportunity to view the fresh project plans, as the new layout will be out on display for all to see.
