As the Academy enters their 101st year in existence, the Coast News spoke with the school president, Steve Bliss about the long, rich history that the Army and Navy Academy has experienced.
To replace Bret Ford who left at the closing of the previous academic year, the Army and Navy Academy has chosen Frank Henry as their Head Football Coach for the 2011 season.
Approximately 50 members of the Army and Navy Academy’s Atkinson Warrior Band will march and play in the National Memorial Day Parade, along Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC. The parade, put on by the American Veterans Center, will be held on Monday afternoon, March 30. Cadets will also be giving a performance on Sunday morning, May 29, at the World War II Memorial.
The Army and Navy Academy, a 300-cadet Academy, is grateful for being given such a major, one-in-a-lifetime honor for the school and all the band boys participating. The Academy’s band has performed at several local and regional events over the school’s 100-year history, but this is the first time they’ve been invited to take part in a national event that’s being televised nationally on The Military Channel.
Help the Army and Navy Academy Student Body kick off their “One Bottle, One Life.” Campaign to help the people of Japan by donating bottle(s) of water to our cause. These water bottles will be delivered to the Red Cross to ship out to people of Japan in April.
Donations may be delivered to Classroom 604 through March 31, 2011.

Over 200 guests attended the 2010 Fall Athletic Awards Banquet held on January 10th. Ranging from cadets, coaches, staff and family members, attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Culin Arts, Army and Navy Academy’s very own food services staff. Prior to dinner, JV Football coach and Chaplain Leroy Hill opened the event his an invocation. Immediately following the buffet, Tom Tarantino, the Academy’s Athletic Director welcomed and thanked all attendees who actively contributed in making the Academy Cadet-Athletes have the best fall athletic experience possible. The evening also included heartfelt speeches from coaches, the presentation of Varsity Letters, along with the department’s traditional MVP awards. Greg Elliot, Captain of the Varsity football team, class of 2012, humorously presented many thank-you gifts to several coaches on the Warrior Football Team’s behalf. The Academy President, Brigadier General Steve Bliss wrapped up the evening with an uplifting message, commending all of Army and Navy Academy’s Cadet-Athletes for their outstanding sportsmanship and for representing their school in such an upstanding manner.

Army and Navy Academy’s Samuel Warfield Library is expecting a renovation in the near future. The Academy is currently laying out plans to expand the space to accomodate three new study rooms, as well as a new bathroom facility, which will achieve similar functionality found in both public and university libraries. Expanding the study space will provide cadets with the opportunity to work together on major projects and routine homework assignments alike, promoting collaborative skills.
Architectural firm House and Dodge is currently in the process of creating renderings of the latest improvement project for Army Navy. Grandparents Weekend (March 18-20, 2011) will be the first opportunity to view the fresh project plans, as the new layout will be out on display for all to see.
